Updated February 2012

JIM IS A COLLECTOR, NOT A DEALER

JIM DOES NOT DO APPRAISALS

Jim loves Schwinn lightweights. Jim owned an all-chrome version of the P15 Paramount when he was a teenager, he has a special love for these types of bicycles. See Jim's Schwinn PARAMOUNT page here. Jim doesn't claim to be a Schwinn expert, but he is a huge fan of their bicycles.

1973 SCHWINN WORLD VOYAGEUR

1973 Schwinn World Voyageur

Jim's (August 1972 built) 1973 Schwinn "World Voyageur " touring model. In Kool Orange color. Chrome-moly steel lug construction frame, built for Schwinn by the Panasonic factory in Japan. These models were Schwinn's idea to find a high-end bike at a more affordable price than the elite hand-built in Chicago Paramount line. Designed to compete with the lesser expensive imports that were flooding the USA market. these were the next best thing to the Paramount.

1973 Schwinn World Voyageur

Scored by Jim completely by accident in the spring of 2012. Equipped with first generation Shimano Dura-Ace components, back in 1973, these were so good that they were soon judged by many to be a much better bargain than the Paramount and were readily available as they were often in stock at dealers nationwide. The Paramounts were hand-built to special order and the back-log of orders meant that the wait for a new Paramount could be as long as one year. Schwinn soon realized that this model was directly competing with the USA made Paramount and it was soon re-marketed and renamed as the Voyageur II.

The Original seat would have been a Fujita Seamless Super YFC model, many dealers replaced these with the Fujita leather "Belt" model or a Brooks B-17 or Brooks Professional. The toe clips for the pedals are missing and the seat and tires are the only items that are not original to this machine.

Another amazing original paint survivor as found hanging in an Indiana heated garage for almost 40 years. The bike is as close to new as it gets.

1972 SCHWINN SPORTS TOURER

1972 Schwinn Sports Tourer in Kool Lemon

Jim's 1972 Schwinn "Sports Tourer" touring model. In Kool Lemon color. Chrome-moly steel fillet brazed frame, built in the Paramount frame shop. Until the Japanese-made Voyageur model came along, these were the next best thing to the elite Paramount line. Nervex drop-outs with derailleur hanger and eyelets for rack mounting. Threaded bottom bracket for three piece crank-set. Weinmann center-pull touring brakes. Aluminum Randonnée type touring handlebars and stem. Brooks B-15 leather saddle.

Jim purchased this bicycle in December 2011 as a "bare frame" on ebay. Jim has wanted a fillet-brazed Schwinn for many years. This one is his frame size and was a superb original paint example. Jim had a 1971 Schwinn Super Sport "parts bike" with a damaged frame. So he cannibalized it to build this bike.
